Danny, Tutti and son Kayden visited San Diego over the President's day Valentine's day weekend, took in sites at Sea World & the Zoo, and took home with them on flight Nukins. Nukins likes to travel, enjoys walking on a leash, driving in a car, and lately, flying. Nukins enjoys being the center of attention and adored, as he was by Grandma and Grandpa. He spent much of his time though hiding in the closet from Kayden and Luke & Leia, Danny & Tutti's other 2 persians. Nukins is visiting Uncle Lenny & Aunt Ari now.

Our father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend passed from this life on 25 Jan 09. His beloved wife, our mother, grandmother and great grandmother and dear friend to many, followed him soon thereafter, on 22 Apr 09. Each has a memorial site where we can continue to add photos and remembrances. They will never, ever be forgotten, they continue to watch over us and we continue to feel their influence.

The fifth little Byington arrived at 0308 a.m, 13 January 09, blue eyes, blond eyelashes,light brown hair, 10 days earlier than her due date, weighing 7 lbs 2 oz, 19 inches crown to heel. Her mother, Wendy, says Lydia is a sweet little quiet baby who so far likes to sleep. Mother and baby are doing well and expect to be home tomorrow before noon. Father Dennis, brothers Tyler, Trevor, Connor and sister Sierra are all very excited, as are all of us. Photos will follow.

7 new little chickadees

In my hopes of saving time and gas and meeting up with Pukha, Tracy and Bodhi somehere in Northern Cal or Southern Oregon I learned they had just adopted 7 baby chickens, only 2 weeks old! Of these they hope to grow hens-a-layin.' In the background I could here Bodhi saying "E'I'E'I'O" That Pukha said, meant that Bodhi was anxious for another book to be read to him--Those were the days! My first borns, Wendy and David, I often took on their favorite outing- Something within my budget they loved, The DownTown Library-UP the elevator to the 3rd Floor Children's book section which was also equipped with a caged Black Rabbit! I was so Lucky Wendy & David loved to be read to,and learned to Read Early, and helped their younger brothers read and play while I worked and Danced!

Jen is just back from filming in and around Hollywood, for pilot of a new show about Brazilians here in America. She mentioned one of her costumes was western, as a Cowgirl, east of Hollywood in the desert, and she was SOO Hot, but I bet she Looked "Hot" and that is to say, really beautiful!

Grandmother had her June 3rd Birthday, Wendy & Dennis, and children Tyler, Trevor, Connor & Sierra, drive to San Diego on vacation to see their Grandparents,Great Grandparents, Sea World & Fish June 7-14. Sierra and Connor last week had their 2nd and 4th birthday parties. Grandmother and Grandfather Pickens had their 63rd wedding anniversary. They are currently both in an assisted living home in "Fletcher Hills" El Cajon, Ca. I'm busy visiting them and working as usual..and watching Nukin's for them. Jamie I heard had another raise at his new job since the last one on the crier. Lenny and Ari are sharing a home with their friend Jeff, while Lenny gets ready to go to college later this summer. Pukha, Tracy and Bodhi have moved to Corvallis, Oregon, where Pukha will go back to college, working on his master's degree. Any and all more news and photos welcome on the PickensCoop!

Lenny can celebrate his completion of his 6-year enlistment with the army and his safe crosscountry move, driving a truck, towing car, packed with wife, kitties, and household - 2127 miles... through wind and sleet. Pukha called from near Bellingham, Washington where he, Tracy and Bodhi currently live with her parents while transitioning back to college for his Master's in Mechanical Engineering, with the news that Oregon State University, Corvallis, where Pukha is registered to start Fall semester has offered him a T.A. position which Pukha said, will definitely take care of his tuition. Corvallis is mid Oregon, 53 miles east of Newport beach, Oregon.

Wonderful news from Daniel and Tutti; they are expecting a son! Due date estimated 08/04/08! Grandmother is home and appreciates her live-in Daughter and son-in-law, resident cooks, drivers, entertainers and peacekeepers. Julie works on-line and keeps a constant watch. Grandpa keeps up with shopping, mowing and edging the lawn,weeding flowerbeds, and countless other chores, including most of his own transportation per city bus, unless he is getting something too-big-to carry.At the moment, David is out to pick Grandpa up from the sporting goods store where he just called us after walking there from his dental appointment... having just purchased a Treadmill he hopes grandma will use to speed her recovery!! Roxanne is cooking corned beef and cabbage and grasshopper pie for St Patrick's Day. Pukha, Tracy and Bodhi have temporarily moved to north of Seattle to stay with Tracy's mom while saving money a few months until Pukha returns to Corvalis University Oregon where he will study for his Master's in mechanical engineering. Cousin Adam will be wed to Abriana of Brazil in Charleston S.C. on 041208 and become the instant father of her 4-year-old daughter. Congratulations to all!

Grandma's A'Leapin'

Today for Leap Year, I drove mother in her Impala to her favorite place, her house, to see her flowers and her cat, Nukins. She had been speaking of spring and it being time for Daffodils -- so she got to see that she has one blooming in her front yard. She had admired the pansies on our way the Chinese Restaurant as we walked and rolled (she in her wheelchair) from the Pt Loma Rehab Center... and so, I bought her several pansies ready to transplant to her front yard in the flower patch area to the side of her front porch. Dad was out front mowing his lawn with the new lawn mower David bought him. Next week Grandma's discharge is planned, she is so excited and so are Grandpa and Nukins.

My mother has her followup Orthopedic appointment tomorrow with her surgeon to check on her hip fracture recovery. More fractured than her hip is her mind, and I hope once she is cleared orthopedically,help for her mind will be the focus. Tues is, of course, Super Tuesday voting. Also that evening will be Madris Gras costume dance party in the clubhouse where we live, with a King and Queen crowning for best costumes. I've actually never been to a Madris Gras party, so this will be my first, I expect it will be fun, but milder that most Madris Gras as this community is for seniors age 55+.

I'm my parents designated driver and as of yesterday, I was allowed to bring the Impala home with me -- and I discovered the music system, which I've never heard when either they drove it or they allowed me to drive THEM in it. Now that I'm solo, I so enjoy the quality audio equipment that goes along with the smooth ride. Feels and sounds like cadillac! My internet crashed so I am working at my parents home. Mom is still in the Rehab in point loma where she is getting Phys Therapy for her hip fracture She also is in a totally creative thinking mode, is out of reality most of the time. I try to visit twice a day. I live 2 blocks from her care center and my dad's house is 1.75 miles. She can get out in wheelchair to lunch, weather permitting. Her friend Betty and I wheeled her all the way to Fairoz, a middle eastern buffet she likes on Wednesday. She sure appreciates getting out or any news or pictures from her family.

A new event calendar has been added to the site, located at the bottom of the left sidebar. It displays calendar events for days for which an event has been added. you can go from month to month and year to year by navigating via the buttons. Click on a day that has a message added and a popup will display the full message. It has a little pop-up admin by clicking 'login' (authorized users only) area where messages are entered/deleted and authorized users are added by Julie.

To register at either the formum or gallery, click the 'register' link at the top of the main gallery or forum page and follow instructions. There are some 'getting started' instructions for the main photo gallery posted on the forum in a 'sticky'. Just click on the 'Yes, click here to read and write' link on the forum main page to get to the posted topics. The 'sticky's' are at the top. There is also 'help' available on both the forum and gallery main pages. To register you may have to wait for the administrator to ok it because of problems with anonymous users and spam.

224-4141 Ask for Emily Pickens bed 320-A, she needs help to answer the phone. Grandma Fell while going from the car to the Diner for lunch on Midway Dec 19, 2007 where we were going to get the Christmas cards ready to mail... Instead, paramedics were called, determined she had a hip fracture, ambulanced her to UCSD Med Center Hillcrest where she was operated on early the next morning, Thurs. By Saturday, 22 Dec, she was transferred to the Rehab care center where she will be strengthened and educated in how to move with the healing hip (it was a femoral neck fracture - she received a new ball joint and a long stem inserted in her femur). She loves visits - Please call or write her, and send pictures. If you can, post them on the PickensCoop and we will bring a laptop for her to see. Hoping for Virtual Christmas Visits by phone, mail or Internet. A new customized web search capability has been added! Driven by Google, it is customized to search designated favorite web sites only. Enter search terms in the text box in the upper right, click the button and it will take you to the results page within this site - which has been integrated stylistically with the sites look and feel. Navigate through the results pages on the bottom. The sites that are searched can be edited. Currently, BBC and NewsTarget are the only sites searched. Julie can also set it up for other people to add sites to search. And additional search engines can be implemented as well.

There is a new photo gallery added to this site. This one is to display only the photos added as "pics of the day", the latest of which is displayed here on the home page. A "pic of the day" is that photo you see in the upper left of the main text area. If you click on that photo it will take you to the "pic of the day" gallery which displays all the historical "pics of the day". To see an enlarged pic in that gallery, just click on the thumbnail. Click in the lower left to close it.

Pukha when asked re Bodhi's ability to say words, listed, Hi, and Momma and Dadda and Bye Bye... but said that Bodhi by far uses Sign language which they have been teaching him, as they read that baby's understand word concepts but have difficulty forming words with their mouths when they are very young, but can pick up and do sign language more easily!

Wendy & Fam's San Diego Visit nabs Big Lobster

Wendy, Dennis, Tyler, Trevor, Connor and Sierra came to San Diego for 2 reasons - Visit family and Catch Ocean Fish. Saturday they fished the ocean in the morning from 7 a.m until 9 PM - determined to bring home a catch. Some fish they caught were too small and to be returned to the ocean - others bit through their line, and one 40-pound halibut was just too heavy and he broke the line. Tyler reeled in a 14-inch Sea Bass from the shores of south Mission Beach, and mean long hours later Finally, a large Lobster was successfully pulled in by Dennis off the Ocean Beach pier - came home was boiled live turning his brown shell bright red - Was wonderful to eat along with the Sea Bass. Speaking of Bright Red! describes also the sunburns they received as a reminder of their October vist to the Beach! Back home in Utah it had snowed the day they spent at the Beach.
